**Subject:** Help understanding our appointment data
Hello,
I'm Wanjiku, I run a small veterinary clinic in Kilimani, Nairobi. We see about 25-30 pets a day — dogs, cats, the occasional exotic — all by appointment.
My problem is no-shows. People book appointments and then just don't turn up. I know it's a problem because I see the empty slots, but I don't actually know how bad it is or whether there's a pattern. Some days feel worse than others. Vaccination follow-ups seem particularly bad — people bring the puppy for the first round and then never come back for the boosters.
My receptionist Grace has been keeping a spreadsheet for the last eighteen months. Every appointment: date, time, day of week, visit type (consultation, vaccination, dental, surgery), pet species, whether the client is new or returning, and whether they showed up. About 8,000 rows total. It's a clean CSV — Grace is very organized.
What I want is simple: show me what the data says. What's our actual no-show rate? Is it worse on certain days? Certain visit types? Is it getting worse over time? I have a staff meeting next month and I want to present real numbers, not my hunches.
I've attached the dataset and a data dictionary Grace put together.
Asante sana,
Wanjiku
